An Ordinary Soul Turns Priceless Remembering the One

saaDhsang gun gaa-ay atolee.
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, she sings the Glorious Praises of the Immeasurable Lord.
ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਈ ਅਮੋਲੀ ॥੨॥੩੫॥
har simrat naanak bha-ee amolee. ||2||35||
Remembering the Lord in meditation, O Nanak, she becomes invaluable. ||2||35||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

In the company of the holy she sings the praises of the One no scale can weigh.

Remembering Him, says Nanak, she becomes priceless.

An ordinary soul becomes priceless simply by remembering the One.
The deeper layer

This one says an ordinary person becomes priceless by remembering the One.

It happens in the Saadh Sangat, the company of good and holy people. There she sings the praises of the One who is atolee, the One no scale can weigh.

Then comes the change. Har simrat naanak bha-ee amolee — remembering the Lord, says Nanak, she becomes priceless.

Think of a plain old cup. It is worth little. But if it was the cup a great teacher drank from, people treasure it. It became precious by being close to something precious.

Worth here is not earned by winning or achieving. It is given by love, and by staying close to the One.

A Question to Sit With

What gives a person true, lasting worth?
