he makes merry, and with each and every breath he remembers the Lord, and the fire does not touch him. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The unborn child is kept safe in the womb by the support of the Name.

There it is happy, and with each breath it remembers the One,

and the fire cannot touch it.

The One protected you even in the womb, before you could do anything to earn it.
The deeper layer

Before you were born, before you could do anything at all, you were already cared for.

Jaisay janan jathar meh paraanee oh rahtaa naam adhaar — the baby in the mother's womb lives with the Name as its support. It is happy there. With every breath it remembers the One, and naa pohai agnaar — the fire cannot touch it. The "fire" is the heat of the womb, and the troubles of the world.

A baby in the womb cannot earn anything. It cannot work or try. Yet it is held and kept safe. That care came first. If the One looked after us then, the One looks after us now.

A Question to Sit With

What does it mean that you were cared for before you could ever ask?
