Set Down Worry; True Wisdom Is the Most Powerful Thing

ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਦਾਸ ਉਦਾਸ ਤਜੁ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਤਪਨ ਤਪੁ ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ॥
ravidaas daas udaas taj bharam tapan tap gur gi-aan.
O servant Ravi Daas, dispel your sorrow and doubt, and know that Guru-given spiritual wisdom is the penance of penances.

O Lord, Destroyer of the fears of Your humble devotees, make me supremely blissful in the end. ||4||1||

In plain words

Ravi Daas says: let go of your sorrow and worry — real wisdom, given by the Guru, is the greatest thing you can do.

O One who takes away Your loved ones' fears, fill me with deep joy in the end.

Set down your worry — receiving true wisdom is the most powerful thing you can do, and the One removes His loved ones' fears.
The deeper layer

After all the sobering truths, Ravi Daas turns fully to hope and joy. First, he tells himself (and us): dispel your sorrow and doubt — set down the worry, because there's a way through. And what is it? Guru-given spiritual wisdom is the penance of penances — the single most powerful, worthwhile thing you can do isn't harsh self-punishment or endless ritual, but simply receiving true wisdom and letting it light your lamp. And his closing prayer is pure trust: O Destroyer of the fears of Your devotees, make me supremely blissful in the end. He names the One as the one who takes away His loved ones' fears — and asks not for wealth or status, but for bliss. For a child, the whole shabad resolves beautifully: yes, our pulls are strong and time is short — but set down your worry, receive true wisdom, and trust the One who removes fear to fill you, in the end, with deep joy.

A Question to Sit With

What worry could you set down, trusting that wisdom and the One can carry you through?
