Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

He has washed away my countless wrongs; He has cut my bonds and set me free.

Taking me by the arm, He pulled me out of the terrible, deep, dark pit.

The One reaches into the dark pit and pulls you out by the arm — you don't climb out alone.
The deeper layer

A vivid rescue: "taking me by the arm, and pulled me out of the terrible, deep dark pit." The soul did not climb out by its own strength; the One reached in and pulled it out by the arm (cf. Shabad 98, Shabad 135). Grace is hands-on, lifting the soul bodily from the dark.

A Question to Sit With

When were you pulled out of something you could never have climbed out of yourself?
