Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Showing mercy, God looked on me with favor and joined me to His feet.
Through loving devotion, says Nanak, I found peace; in the company of the holy, I am absorbed in the One.
However you escaped what traps everyone else — name it honestly: it was grace.
The answer to all the opening questions is given plainly: "showing His Mercy, God has looked upon me with favor." The escape from Maya, the staying-green, the staying-clean — all of it was mercy, worked through "loving devotional worship" and the "Saadh Sangat." The soul takes no credit; it names grace.
A Question to Sit With
Is it freeing to credit your good fortune to grace rather than to your own strength?
