ਲਾਲੁ ਚੋਲਨਾ ਤੈ ਤਨਿ ਸੋਹਿਆ ॥
laal cholnaa tai tan sohi-aa.
That red dress looks so beautiful on your body.
ਸੁਰਿਜਨ ਭਾਨੀ ਤਾਂ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਿਆ ॥੧॥
surijan bhaanee taaN man mohi-aa. ||1||
Your Husband Lord is pleased, and His heart is enticed. ||1||

That red dress looks so lovely on you.
Your Beloved is pleased, and His heart is captivated.
The color of real love is itself what makes the soul beautiful to the One.
The shabad opens with companions admiring the soul-bride in her red dress — the crimson of Rang, the deep dye of genuine love. Her beauty so pleases the Beloved that "His heart is enticed." The color of true devotion is itself what draws the One near.
