Verse 4 of 6

The Highest Honor Is Delighting the One You Love

ਤੂੰ ਸਤਵੰਤੀ ਤੂੰ ਪਰਧਾਨਿ ॥
tooN satvantee tooN parDhaan.
You are pure and chaste, you are most distinguished.
ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਭਾਨੀ ਤੁਹੀ ਸੁਰ ਗਿਆਨਿ ॥੩॥
tooN pareetam bhaanee tuhee sur gi-aan. ||3||
You are pleasing to Your Beloved, and you have sublime understanding. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

You are pure and true, the most honored of all;

you please your Beloved, and your understanding runs deep.

The highest honor isn't rank — it's delighting the One you love.
The deeper layer

The bride's qualities — "pure and chaste... most distinguished... sublime understanding" — are all gathered into one: "you are pleasing to your Beloved." Her real distinction is not status but the fact that she delights the One. Pleasing the Beloved is the highest honor there is.

A Question to Sit With

Whose pleasure means the most to you, and why?
