In plain words

There is a garden where many plants have grown,

and they bear the Nectar of the Name as their fruit.

The life of devotion is a fruitful garden, not a barren desert.
The deeper layer

This one says a life of love for the One is like a fruitful garden.

Ayk bageechaa payd ghan kari-aa means "there is a garden where many plants have grown." Amrit naam tahaa meh fali-aa means "in it, the nectar of the Name grows as fruit." Amrit is a sweet nectar that brings life. The Name is the One's presence, remembered with love.

Guru Arjan pictures the life of devotion as a living, growing place. It is not a dry desert. It is a garden full of green, full of fruit.

Think of a school garden that everyone tends together. Every week there is something new: a bud, a flower, a first strawberry. A heart that loves the One grows like that. An earlier shabad pictured the heart as a farm, too. This picture is hopeful and full of plenty.

A Question to Sit With

What is a 'garden' in your life — a place where good things actually grow?
