In plain words

Think on this, wise one. Here is how you reach the deep peace beyond craving.

All around this garden lie pools of poison. But within it flows the Nectar.

The garden of the Name is ringed by pools of poison — stay close to the Nectar within.
The deeper layer

This one says the garden is surrounded by poison, so stay close to the sweet nectar in the middle.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Aisaa karahu beechaar gi-aanee means "think about this, wise one." Pad nirbaanee means the state of deep peace, free of craving.

Then the picture. Aas paas bikhoo-aa kay kuntaa means "all around are pools of poison." Beech amrit hai means "in the middle is the nectar."

The poison pools are Maya, the pull of greed, showing off, and wanting more and more. The nectar is the love of the One. Think of a picnic in a park next to a busy road. You do not go play in the traffic. You stay in the middle of the park where it is safe and green. To find peace, stay inside the garden, near the nectar.

A Question to Sit With

How do you stay near what nourishes you when harmful things surround it?
