In the life of a family at home, there is worry. In the life of one who leaves it all, there is pride.
And doing rituals only tangles the soul further.
No way of life is the answer all by itself.
Guru Arjan looks fairly at both sides. The householder, someone living with family and work, often carries worry. The renunciate, someone who gives up home to live apart, can grow proud. And doing rituals only tangles the soul further.
Think of two phones. One is in a busy kitchen and one is in a quiet drawer. Neither one works if the battery is empty. What matters is not which life you choose, busy or quiet. It is whether the Name, the One's presence, is alive inside it.
Can you be at peace whether your life is busy or quiet — and what would make the difference?
