and you shall not be troubled, O Siblings of Destiny, O friends. ||3||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Hold no ill will toward anyone in your heart,
and you will not be troubled, my friends.
Wish no one harm, and you free your own heart from being troubled.
The ethical jewel of the shabad: "do not harbor evil intentions against others in your mind, and you shall not be troubled." Wishing others harm disturbs your own peace most of all; release the ill will, and you free yourself. Goodwill toward others and your own peace are the same thing (cf. Shabad 101, the slanderer's self-harm).
A Question to Sit With
Have you noticed that holding a grudge disturbs your peace more than theirs?
