Train Your Eyes on the One and See It Everywhere

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
aasaa mehlaa 5.
Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਏਕੋ ਏਕੀ ਨੈਨ ਨਿਹਾਰਉ ॥
ayko aykee nain nihaara-o.
With my eyes, I behold the One and Only Lord.
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰਉ ॥੧॥
sadaa sadaa har naam samHaara-o. ||1||
Forever and ever, I contemplate the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

With my eyes, I behold the One and only One.

Forever and ever, I hold the Name in mind.

Train your eyes and your mind on the One, and you begin to see the One everywhere.
The deeper layer

Look for the One, and you begin to see the One everywhere.

Ayko aykee nain nihaara-o — with my eyes, I see the One and only One. Sadaa sadaa har naam samhaara-o — always, always, I keep the Name in mind.

Two things work together here: what the eyes see outside, and what the heart remembers inside. Think of learning a new word. Suddenly you hear it all day long. When the heart keeps remembering the One, the eyes start finding the One in everything.

A Question to Sit With

What do you see more of when you look for it on purpose?
