By the graceful favor of the Saints, I meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I sing the praises of the One; by the kind favor of the Saints,

I meditate on the Name in their company.

Even your ability to praise and remember is a gift of good company.
The deeper layer

Even our singing and remembering are gifts from good company.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. The singer praises the One. The singer remembers the Name. But this happens sant partaap, by the kind help of the Saints. It happens in the Saadh Sangat, the company of good and holy people.

Think of trying to sing alone in your room, and then singing with a whole choir. The group lifts you. Your voice comes out stronger. Being around good people is what makes the praising possible.

A Question to Sit With

What good practice came to you through the people around you?
