Verse 5 of 5

Admit You Know Little and Lean Your Full Weight

ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਨਾ ਮਤਿ ਮੇਰੀ ਥੋਰੀ ॥
kichhoo na jaanaa mat mayree thoree.
I know nothing, and my intellect is inadequate.
ਬਿਨਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਓਟ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੋਰੀ ॥੪॥੧੮॥੬੯॥
binvat naanak ot parabh toree. ||4||18||69||
Prays Nanak, O God, You are my only Support. ||4||18||69||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I know nothing, and my understanding falls short.

Nanak prays: God, You are my only support.

Admit you know little, and you can finally lean your full weight on the One.
The deeper layer

This one says: when you know you are small, you can lean your full weight on the One.

The song ends where it has been heading. Kichhoo na jaanaa mat mayree thoree — I know nothing, and my understanding is small. Binvat naanak ot parabh toree — Nanak prays, God, You are my only support.

The whole song has been clearing the ground. No cleverness. No special goodness. No achievements. All of that is set down so the soul can lean fully on the One.

It is like learning to float in a pool. When you stop fighting the water and lie back, the water holds you. Being humble is not losing. It is how you find a support that will not let you fall.

A Question to Sit With

What becomes possible when you stop pretending to have it all figured out?
