A Content Mind Is Mercy's Gift, Not Your Achievement

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਨੋ ਮਿਟੇ ਜੰਜਾਲ ॥
man tariptaano mitay janjaal.
My mind is satisfied, and my entanglements have been dissolved.
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ॥੧॥
parabh apunaa ho-i-aa kirpaal. ||1||
God has become merciful to me. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

My mind is content, and my entanglements have dissolved.

God has shown me mercy.

A content mind and untangled life are mercy's gift, not your own achievement.
The deeper layer

This one is about a calm, happy mind being a gift.

Man tariptaano mitay janjaal — my mind is satisfied, and my tangles are gone. The restless mind is finally content.

Why? Parabh apunaa ho-i-aa kirpaal — my own Lord has been kind to me.

Think of a knotted necklace you could not untangle. Someone gently takes it and loosens every knot. The calm you feel was a gift, not something you won by trying harder.

A Question to Sit With

What would a truly content mind feel like for you?
