Verse 4 of 5

Honor, Family, and Beauty All Depend on the Soul

With that, you have honor and respect;
unH kai sang tum saak jagat.
with that, you have relatives in the world.
unH kai sang tayree sabh biDh thaatee.
With that, you are adorned in every way;
os binaa tooN ho-ee hai maatee. ||3||
without it, you are reduced to dust. ||3||

In plain words

Because of that, you have honor and standing.

Because of that, you have relatives in the world.

Because of that, you are adorned in every way.

But without it, you are reduced to dust.

Honor, family, beauty — all of it depends on the soul, and returns to dust when the soul leaves.
The deeper layer

Everything the world values about a person depends on the soul.

The chorus comes back again, now with the good things that come from other people. Because of the soul, you have honor and standing. You have family around you in the world. You are dressed up and cared for in every way. And again: without the soul, you are reduced to dust.

The verse repeats this on purpose. Each time it comes back, the point sinks deeper, until you know it in your bones. Think of a song chorus you have heard so often you cannot forget it. Honor, family, and beauty all depend on the soul, and they return to dust when it leaves.

A Question to Sit With

If all your social standing depends on the soul within, how should you hold it?
