In plain words

All peace and comfort are in meditation on the One Name. All righteous action is in singing the One's praises.

The company of the holy is utterly pure and sacred; meeting them, love for God is embraced.

Peace, righteousness, and love are all held in three simple things: the Name, praise, and good company.
The deeper layer

Guru Arjan gathers all the good things of life into three simple places.

Sagal sookh jap aykai naam — all peace is in remembering the One Name. The Name, Naam, is the One's living presence that we keep in mind. Sagal Dharam har kay gun gaam — all right living, Dharam, is in singing the One's praises.

The third place is good company. The Saadh Sangat is the gathering of good, holy people. The verse calls it very pure. Meeting them, love for God takes hold of you.

Think of a lunchbox packed with everything you need for the day. Remembering, praising, and good company are that lunchbox. Every other good thing is already inside.

A Question to Sit With

What few simple things, done well, would hold most of what matters?
