Verse 1 of 3

The Company of the Holy Is the World's Hope

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
aasaa mehlaa 5.
Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਤਰਿਆ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
saaDhoo sangat tari-aa sansaar.
The world is saved by the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਹਿ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
har kaa naam maneh aaDhaar. ||1||
The Name of the Lord is the Support of the mind. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The world is saved by the company of the holy.

The Name of the One is the mind's support.

The company of the holy is the whole world's hope — and the Name is the mind's steady ground.
The deeper layer

A sweeping claim: "the world is saved by the Saadh Sangat." The company of the holy is not just personal help but the world's hope. And within it, "the Name of the Lord is the Support of the mind" — the steadying ground beneath all thought.

A Question to Sit With

What kind of community could be a genuine hope for the wider world?
