Verse 2 of 5

See That Your Life Runs on His Gifts, and Praise Flows

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰ ਤੂੰ ॥
aath pahar saalaahi sirjanhaar tooN.
Twenty-four hours a day, praise the Creator Lord.
ਜੀਵਾਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਮੂੰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jeevaaN tayree daat kirpaa karahu mooN. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I live by Your bountiful gifts - please, shower me with Your Mercy! ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Day and night, praise the Creator.

I live by Your bountiful gifts — please shower me with Your mercy.

Recognize that your very life runs on the One's gifts, and praise flows on its own.
The deeper layer

The Pause: continual praise ("twenty-four hours a day"), grounded in gratitude — "I live by Your bountiful gifts." The soul recognizes that its very life is sustained by the One's giving, and asks only for more mercy. Praise flows naturally from seeing how much one has been given.

A Question to Sit With

What in your life runs on gifts you didn't earn?
