Twenty-four hours a day, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Get aboard the boat of the One's Lotus Feet, and cross over.

Day and night, sing the One's praises in the company of the holy.

Don't drift in the current — climb aboard the boat and cross.
The deeper layer

This one gives the way to be rescued: get on the boat.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Against the river that sweeps the sleepers away, there is a boat. The boat is the One's Lotus Feet, a loving way of saying humble closeness to the One.

You climb aboard in the Sangat, the company of good people. There, you sing the One's praises all day and night. Think of a rescue boat pulling up beside a tired swimmer. You do not have to fight the current alone. Stop drifting, and climb aboard.

A Question to Sit With

What 'boat' could carry you across what you can't swim alone?
