Without devotion to the Lord, you shall die in sorrow, again and again. ||2||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
You may enjoy every pleasure, but they are useless without the Name.
Without devotion to the One, you will die in sorrow, again and again.
Pleasures that never touch the One leave you drifting — useless when the river takes you.
This one says pleasures alone leave you drifting.
You may enjoy many pleasures. But without the Name, they are empty. And a life of pleasure without devotion ends in sorrow, again and again, one death after another.
Think of eating only sweets. It feels good for a moment, then leaves you hungry. Fun that never touches the One leaves the soul drifting in the river. The pleasures cannot save us. Only the Name can do that. (See also Shabad 146.)
A Question to Sit With
Have you found that pleasure alone can't carry you through the hard things?
