Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

No one is anyone's lasting companion; why take pride in others?

With the support of the One Name, this terrible world-ocean is crossed.

All human company is temporary — only the One is the companion that doesn't pass.
The deeper layer

A sobering truth: "no one is anyone's companion" — all human company is temporary, so "why take any pride in others?" Relying on people, or on standing among them, is leaning on what will pass. Only "the One Name" carries you across (cf. Shabad 178).

A Question to Sit With

Who or what do you lean on that might not always be there — and what would last?
