One Gives Lasting Bliss; the Other Perishes

ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਜੀਵਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਅਨਦੁ ਘਣਾ ॥
jap jap jeevaa naam hovai anad ghanaa.
I live by chanting and meditating on the Naam, and so I obtain immense bliss.
ਮਿਥਿਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਝੂਠਾ ਵਿਣਸਣਾ ॥੨॥
mithi-aa moh sansaar jhoothaa vinsanaa. ||2||
Attachment to the world is useless and vain; it is false, and perishes in the end. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I live by chanting and meditating on the Name, and so I find immense bliss.

Attachment to the world is useless and vain; it is false, and perishes in the end.

One thing gives lasting bliss; the other is empty and perishes — choose the living one.
The deeper layer

The contrast: the Name gives "immense bliss" and life ("I live by chanting"), while "attachment to the world" is "false, and perishes." One leads to bliss and lasts; the other is empty and ends. The choice is between the living and the perishing.

A Question to Sit With

What in your life is lasting, and what only seems to matter for a while?
