Grace Makes the Grasping Content

I could not bear even one criticism, but now, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I am cooled and soothed. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I used to wander after pennies; now all my heart's desires are satisfied.

I could not bear even one criticism; now, in the company of the holy, I am cooled and soothed.

Grace makes the grasping content and the thin-skinned unshakable.
The deeper layer

Grace turns a grabbing heart into a content one.

Aadh aadh ka-o firat dhoondh-tay — I used to run around chasing pennies. Now all my wanting is satisfied. The heart that always wanted more finally says, "This is enough."

Next, the singer says, "I couldn't bear even one word of criticism." Now, in the saadhsangat, the company of good and holy people, they feel cool and calm. Think of a phone that overheats and crashes at the smallest thing. Then it is given a steady, cool place to rest, and it runs smoothly again. Grace makes the fragile steady. Another shabad (Shabad 132) sings of good people who stay calm like this.

A Question to Sit With

What used to upset you that no longer does — and what changed?
