A Life of Love Blesses Everyone Around It

ਆਪਿ ਲੀਏ ਲੜਿ ਲਾਇ ਦਰਿ ਦਰਵੇਸ ਸੇ ॥

Those whom the Lord attaches to the hem of His robe, are the true dervishes at His Door.

Blessed are the mothers who gave birth to them, and fruitful is their coming into the world. ||2||

In plain words

The ones the One draws close and holds are the truly holy people, right at the door of the divine.

How blessed are the mothers who brought them into the world — their lives were truly worthwhile.

A life given to love is a blessing that reaches back to those who raised you and out to everyone around you.
The deeper layer

Fareed honors the true lovers of the One: those whom the Lord attaches to the hem of His robe are the true dervishes at His Door. A 'dervish' is a devoted holy person; and the image of being attached to the hem of the robe is tender — like a small child holding onto a parent's clothing, drawn close and kept. And Fareed's beautiful blessing: blessed are the mothers who gave birth to them; fruitful is their coming into the world. To have brought such a loving soul into being, he says, made a mother's whole life worthwhile. For a child, there's real warmth here: a life given to love isn't just good for the person living it — it's a blessing that reaches back to those who raised them and out to everyone around them. A loving heart makes its own arrival in the world a gift to others.

A Question to Sit With

How might living with a loving heart be a gift not just to you, but to the people who love you?
