It is the cure for evil passions, unique, unequalled and peace-giving; in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, O Nanak, drink it in. ||2||4||133||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

It is the cure for bad passions. It is unique, beyond compare, and full of peace.

In the company of the holy, O Nanak, drink it in.

The Sermon of the One is the cure for the passions — drunk in good company.
The deeper layer

Guru Arjan is saying: the talk of the One is also a medicine for the heart.

Bikhaaree — it is the cure for poison, for the harmful passions inside. It is niraaree, one of a kind, and apaaree, without limit. And it is sehjaaree, full of calm peace.

Gurbani often names five "fighters" inside us: desire, anger, greed, clinging and pride. Another hymn in this raag shows that willpower alone cannot beat them. This talk of the One cures them. And it is taken in the saaDhsang, the company of the holy, not alone. Think of a warm soup shared at the family table. It heals, and it is best taken together.

A Question to Sit With

What is the 'medicine' that calms your most restless impulses?
