Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Show Your Mercy, O Supreme One, that I may sing Your praises.
Total peace and the greatest greatness, O Nanak, come from living to chant the Name.
The greatest greatness there is comes from a life given to chanting the Name.
Even singing praise is asked for as mercy — "that I may sing Your Glorious Praises." And the fruit is "total peace, and the greatest greatness," found "by living to chant the Name." The whole of greatness is in a life given to remembrance.
