Keep It Simple: Tell the Truth and Do What's Right

The disciple ought to travel the route, pointed out by the Guru. ||3||

In plain words

So speak the truth, and live rightly — don't deal in falsehood.

And walk the good path that wise guidance points out to you.

Given how short life is, keep it simple: tell the truth, do what's right, and follow good guidance.
The deeper layer

Keep it simple: tell the truth and do what is right.

After all this thinking about how short life is, Fareed's advice is simple. Bolee-ai sach Dharam jhooth na bolee-ai — speak the truth, live rightly, and do not speak falsehood. Dharam here means right living.

Then: jo gur dasai vaat mureedaa jolee-ai — the student should walk the road the Guru points out. A mureed is a student who follows a spiritual teacher. Walk the good path that wise teachers show you, instead of wandering off alone. Think of a hiking trail with clear markers. Follow the markers, and you reach the top safely.

Time is short and precious, so there is no need to make it complicated. Tell the truth, do what is right, and follow good guidance. A truthful life, walked along the path the wise point out, is a life well spent. Simple, and enough.

A Question to Sit With

Why might 'tell the truth and follow good guidance' be the simplest and best way to spend a precious life?
