In plain words

Seeing good people carried safely across gives the rest of us heart and hope.

But those who give their hearts entirely to the glitter of riches end up losing what matters most.

Let good people who've gone before give you hope — and don't give your whole heart to the glitter of riches.
The deeper layer

Good examples give us hope, and a heart given wholly to riches loses what matters most.

Fareed puts two pictures side by side. The first gives hope. Seeing the young ones carried safely across, the hearts of the others take courage. When you see good people make it across life's deep waters, living well and finding the One, it gives everyone else hope too. Good examples lift us up.

The second is a warning. Kanchan vannay paasay kalvat cheeri-aa — those who side with the glitter of gold are cut down. Fareed's picture is stark. Its meaning is that those who give their whole hearts to riches lose the deeper things.

Think of two paths at a fork. One follows the people you have seen make it home safely. The other follows a shiny sign. Take heart from the good people who have gone before, and keep your heart free of the glitter.

A Question to Sit With

How do good examples give you hope? And why is giving your whole heart to money a losing trade?
