A Sleeping Mind Walks Right Past the Treasure

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਸੰਗੇ ਤਿਲੁ ਮਰਮੁ ਨ ਲਹੇ ॥੩॥
amrit naam padaarath sangay til maram na lahay. ||3||
The wealth of the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord, is with them, but they do not find even a tiny bit of its mystery. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The wealth of the Ambrosial Name is right with them,

yet they find not even a tiny bit of its mystery.

The greatest treasure is right with you — but a sleeping mind walks right past it.
The deeper layer

The treasure is right there with them, but they walk past it without noticing.

Amrit naam padaarath sangay — the Name, sweet as amrit, the nectar of life, is a treasure they carry with them. Til maram na lahay — yet they do not find even a tiny bit of its secret.

This is the sad part. The treasure is not far away. It is inside, always there. Think of searching the whole house for your phone while it sits in your own pocket. The sleeper keeps his eyes closed, so the greatest wealth stays unfound.

Another shabad of Guru Arjan in this raag says it too: you search outside for what is already in your own home.

A Question to Sit With

What might be right beside you, unnoticed, because you aren't looking?
