By Your Grace, O Lord, You save those, who take to the Sanctuary of the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation. ||4||2||142||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

By Your Grace, O Lord, You save those

who take to the Sanctuary of the true congregation.

The sleeper can't wake himself — he is roused in good company, by grace.
The deeper layer

No one can wake themselves from this sleep; it happens by grace, in good company.

Kar kirpaa raakhay satsangay — by Your kirpaa, grace, You keep people safe in the Sat Sangat. The Sat Sangat is the true company, people gathered to remember the One together. Naanak saran aahay — Nanak comes seeking that shelter.

Think of a sleepover. It is hard to wake up alone, but when your friends are up and laughing, you wake up too. The sleeper does not rouse himself. He is woken by grace, in the holy company.

The treasure he could not find alone, he finds with others.

A Question to Sit With

Whose company has woken you up to something you were asleep to?
