Sustained Remembrance Overflows Into Song

naam Dhi-aava-o sahj samaava-o naanak har gun gaahi. ||3||6||146||
Meditating on the Naam, I am absorbed in celestial peace; O Nanak, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||3||6||146||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I meditate on the Name, and I sink into heavenly peace.

O Nanak, I sing the glorious praises of the One.

Sustained remembrance settles into peace that overflows into song.
The deeper layer

When you keep remembering the One, peace fills you up and spills over into song.

Naam Dhi-aava-o — I meditate on the Name. Sahj samaava-o — I sink into sahj, an easy, natural peace. It is not forced. It just settles in.

Then comes the overflow: har gun gaahi — I sing the praises of the One. Think of a kettle warming slowly on the stove. After a while it cannot keep quiet, and it starts to sing. Steady remembrance works like that. The fruit of it is peace, and peace that is full enough turns into praise.

A Question to Sit With

What practice, kept up, settles you into peace?
