In plain words

Then your mind becomes steady and firm. Wilderness and household are the same.

Within lives the One Husband; outside there are many distractions. Practice the Yoga of meditation, says Nanak. This is how to live with people, yet remain apart from them.

Live fully among people while staying rooted within — that is the whole art.
The deeper layer

This one says you can live fully among people while staying rooted inside.

Thir thir chit thir haan — the mind becomes steady, steady, steady. Ban garihu samsar haan — the forest and the home become the same. There is no need to run off to the woods to find peace. The same calm holds anywhere. Aasaa calls this Sahaj, easy inner balance.

Antar ayk pir haan — inside lives the One Beloved. Baahar anayk Dhar haan — outside there are many distractions. Raajan jog kar haan — practice Raj Yoga, the royal way of joining with the One while living a full life.

Kaho naanak log agolee ree sakhee — this is how to live among people and yet stay free inside. Think of a tree in a windy park. Its branches move with every breeze, but its roots hold still. Other shabads in Aasaa teach this too.

A Question to Sit With

How can you be warm and present with everyone while staying inwardly your own?
