Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
For the sake of pleasure, you suffer such great pain, and you serve every person.
You wander from door to door like a dog, unconscious of the meditation on the One.
Chasing pleasure can make a beggar of you — wandering door to door, forgetting the One.
The hard cost of chasing pleasure: "you suffer such great pain, and you have to serve each and every person." The greedy soul, seeking gain, ends up servile — "wandering from door to door like a dog," begging, while "unconscious of the Lord's meditation." Chasing pleasure makes a beggar of the soul (cf. Shabad 212, begging from beggars).
A Question to Sit With
Has chasing something pleasant ever left you more dependent, not more free?
