Who dies, and who weeps for him?
O Creator, Cause of causes, You are over the heads of all.
This one says that death and sadness happen inside something much bigger.
This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. It asks a big question. Ka-un marai ka-un rovai ohee — who dies, and who cries for them?
Then it answers by pointing above all of it. Karan kaaran sabhsai sir tohee — You, the Cause of everything, are over all. The One holds the whole story.
Think of watching a sad scene in a movie from the back of the theater. You can feel the sadness, and you can also see the whole screen, the whole story. Death and sadness are real. And they happen inside the One's loving hold.
What larger view might hold both loss and the one who grieves it?
