Merge the Finite Into the Formless and the Cycle Ends

ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਮਹਿ ਆਕਾਰੁ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥

One who merges his form into the Formless Lord,

abides in the True Lord, the Powerful, beyond power.
ਸੋ ਨਰੁ ਗਰਭ ਜੋਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਆਵੈ ॥੪॥
so nar garabh jon nahee aavai. ||4||
Such a person does not enter into the womb of reincarnation again. ||4||

In plain words

One who merges his form into the Formless One

lives in the True One, the Powerful, beyond all power.

Such a person does not enter the womb of rebirth again.

Merge your finite form into the Formless, and the cycle of returning ends.
The deeper layer

Guru Nanak says that when the small self melts into the One, the round of coming back ends.

Nirankaar meh aakaar samaavai — the one with a shape melts into the Shapeless One. We each have a form, a body with edges. The One has no edges at all.

Think of an ice cube dropped into a warm lake. Its shape melts away into the whole lake.

Such a person rests in the True One, the Power beyond every power. They do not come back into the womb again. Another shabad says the same: the one who melts into the Shapeless is free from returning.

A Question to Sit With

What would it mean to let your small self merge into something boundless?
