The Gurmukh renounces other songs and tastes.
The Gurmukh's mind awakens to devotion.
Hearing the unstruck music, this mind reflects on the Word and accepts it.
Understanding itself, it becomes attuned to the Formless One.
The mind that truly knows itself is in tune with the One.
The Gurmukh lets go of other songs and other tastes. Their mind wakes up to devotion. Then it hears the anhad, the "unstruck music." Anhad is a sound no hand plays, a music heard deep inside. Anhad sun maani-aa sabad veechaaree — hearing it, the mind thinks on the Word and accepts it.
The last line joins two things into one. Aatam cheeneh bha-ay nirankaaree — understanding itself, the soul becomes attuned to the Formless One. Knowing yourself and being in tune with the One happen together. Think of tuning a guitar. When each string is truly in tune, it rings in harmony with the whole song. Another shabad in Raag Aasaa says the same: see the One living inside as your deepest self.
