The Mind Is a Greedy King Until It Kneels

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਜਾ ਲੋਭੀਆ ਲੁਭਤਉ ਲੋਭਾਈ ॥
ih man raajaa lobhee-aa lubh-ta-o lobhaa-ee.
This mind is a greedy king, engrossed in greed.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਬਣਿ ਆਈ ॥੩॥
gurmukh lobh nivaaree-ai har si-o ban aa-ee. ||3||
The Gurmukh eliminates his greed, and comes to an understanding with the Lord. ||3||

In plain words

This mind is a greedy king, drunk on its own greed.

But the Gurmukh drives the greed out — and comes to an understanding with the Lord.

The mind is a greedy king until it kneels to the true One — then the taxes end.
The deeper layer

The mind acts like a greedy king until it bows to the true King.

Ih man raajaa lobhee-aa — this mind is a greedy king. It is a king because it gives orders. Every wish gets treated like a royal command. It is greedy because nothing is ever enough. Many people live their whole lives in that king's court, always paying more.

The Gurmukh, one who faces the Guru, changes this quietly. There is no fight to knock the king down. The mind simply turns toward the Guru, and har si-o ban aa-ee — it makes friends with the One. Think of a team captain who has been bossing everyone around. When a real coach arrives, the captain starts listening. The team is the same, but the shouting stops.

A Question to Sit With

If your mind gave orders like a king today, what did it demand — and did obeying bring peace?
