In plain words

Why should I go searching in far forests, when the woods of my own home are so green?

In an instant, the True Word of the Shabad came and settled in my heart.

The woods at home are green — the forest you were told to seek is already growing in you.
The deeper layer

Guru Nanak says the forest people travel to find God is already growing inside you.

In his time, people who gave up home often went to the forests to find God. Guru Nanak looks at those famous forests. Then he looks at the green already growing at home, and he stays. Ghar ban, the home-woods, means the life inside you. It is alive and leafy, and it needs no journey.

The second line says why it turned green so fast. The Shabad, the Guru's Word, arrived "instantaneously." No long trip. No seasons of hard trials. The Word settles in a heart the way light fills a room when you flip the switch: all at once.

A Question to Sit With

What is already green in your life that you keep overlooking while searching elsewhere?
