When self-conceit is eradicated, and understanding is obtained, one meets the Lord, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

This is Nanak's prayer: may the True Name be my comfort and ease.

When the self drops away, understanding dawns — and through the Guru's Word, the meeting comes.

Self gone, understanding in — the door was never locked, only blocked.
The deeper layer

This one says the door to the One was never locked. Something was blocking it.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. First comes Nanak's prayer. May the True Name be suhaylaa, my ease and comfort, the thing that makes the road light.

Then comes how the meeting happens, step by step: aap ga-i-aa sojhee pa-ee — the self is gone, and understanding arrives. It is as if understanding was waiting outside the door all along. The self was standing in the doorway. Think of a crowd blocking the classroom door. Once it clears, you just walk in.

The meeting through the Shabad, the Guru's Word, is not built by effort. It happens by itself, in the space the ego leaves behind.

A Question to Sit With

What might you understand if being right no longer mattered to you?
