Every Coin Meets the Assay: What's Under the Shine?

ਹੁਕਮਿ ਰਜਾਈ ਜੋ ਚਲੈ ਸੋ ਪਵੈ ਖਜਾਨੈ ॥
hukam rajaa-ee jo chalai so pavai khajaanai.
One who follows the Command of the Lord's Will is taken into the Lord's Treasury.
ਖੋਟੇ ਠਵਰ ਨ ਪਾਇਨੀ ਰਲੇ ਜੂਠਾਨੈ ॥੪॥
khotay thavar na paa-inee ralay joothaanai. ||4||
The counterfeit find no place there; they are mixed with the false ones. ||4||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Whoever walks with the Command of His Will is taken into His Treasury.

The counterfeit find no place there — they are thrown together with the false.

Every coin meets the assay — the question is what is under the shine.
The deeper layer

This one asks what metal is under your shine.

The picture is coins. Souls are like coins, and each is tested by how it walks, not by what it claims. The coin that moves with the Will of the Mint-master is gathered into the Treasury. The khotay, the fake coins, have cheap metal under the shine. They find no place there. They end up piled with their own kind.

The sorting is not mean. It is simply what a treasury does. Think of a vending machine that pushes a fake coin back out. It is not angry. It only takes real ones.

Every coin gets tested in the end. And the verse leaves one question open on purpose: what metal is under my shine?

A Question to Sit With

If someone could see under your surface, what would they find the metal to be?
