One who will not serve the holy True Guru finds no sweetness in devotion.
The Pause dismisses, in four blunt words, the world's favorite substitute for wisdom: fit dhrig chaturaa-ee — cursed be cleverness. Cleverness is intelligence in the service of the self: quick, impressive, and incapable of the one thing needed, because it always keeps its owner at the center. The second line adds the taste-test: devotion has a sweetness (bhaa-ee — pleasing) that simply does not register on the unserving palate. Cleverness can analyze the honey and never once taste it.
