In plain words

The Shaastras, the Vedas, the Simritees — all of them are held in the ocean of Your Name.

Even the Ganges river is held within Your Feet.

The mind can wander the three branches of the world.

But the one whose understanding rests at the Root finds You wondrous beyond all.

Every holy river runs inside the ocean of the Name — climb down from the branches to the Root.
The deeper layer

This one says every holy thing fits inside the One's Name.

Guru Amar Das begins with a surprise about size. The Shaastras, Vedas, and Simritees are the old holy books of India. People thought of them as oceans of wisdom. Here they are held inside a bigger ocean: the Name. Even the holy river Ganges, where so many people travel to bathe, is held at the One's Feet.

Nothing holy is made fun of. Everything holy is just shown at its true size. Think of looking at your town on a map, and then zooming out to see the whole Earth. Your town is still real. It just sits inside something much bigger.

The second line gives a picture of a tree. The world has saakhaa teen, three branches. These are the three pulls of nature. The mind can climb those branches forever. But the one whose mind rests at the mool, the Root, finds the One sarab vidaanee, full of wonder.

A Question to Sit With

What do you treat as the biggest thing in your world — and what would re-size it?
