In plain words

Three hundred thirty million gods are Your servants.

You give wealth and wonder-working powers. You are the support of the breath of life itself.

Your beautiful forms cannot be understood. What could anyone settle by arguing about them?

All 330 million gods draw their wages from one treasury — and so does your next breath.
The deeper layer

This one says all the powers people worship get their gifts from the One.

taytees karorhee daas tumaaray — three hundred thirty million gods are Your servants. Old Indian stories counted that many gods. The verse puts all of them in one line and calls them servants of the One.

Then it says the One gives riDh siDh, wealth and wonder-working powers. People used to beg holy men for these. Here they all come from one place. And the One gives something even bigger: paraan aDhaaree, the next breath of life.

Think of a big school with many teachers. Each one hands out prizes. But every prize came from one head office.

The last line ends the arguing. The One's forms cannot be understood. So what can debate settle? It is like rowing a boat on dry land.

A Question to Sit With

What questions in your life are settled by arguing — and which only by awe?
