Sikhism·Raag Aasaa·Shabad 278
Verse 8 of 9

Every Age Crowns Kings; the Infinite Stays Unmeasured

In each and every age, He creates the kings, who are sung of as His Incarnations.
ਤਿਨ ਭੀ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਿ ਆਖਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੭॥
tin bhee ant na paa-i-aa taa kaa ki-aa kar aakh veechaaree. ||7||
Even they have not found His limits; what can I speak of and contemplate? ||7||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

In every age You raise up the kings who are sung of as Your incarnations.

Even they never found Your limits — so what could my speaking and reasoning accomplish?

Every age crowns its divine kings — and the Infinite stays unmeasured behind them all.
The deeper layer

This one says even the greatest heroes never found the One's edge.

jugah jugah kay raajay kee-ay — in every age, the One raised up great kings. People sang of them as the One come down to earth. The verse does not make fun of them. It does not bow to them either. It just tells what happened: tin bhee ant na paa-i-aa — even they did not find the One's limit.

Think of the fastest runner in the world trying to reach the end of the sky. Being great does not help. The sky has no end.

So the singer is humble: what could I say or figure out? If even the greatest could not measure the One, no clever words will.

A Question to Sit With

Why do people keep turning heroes into gods — and what gets missed when they do?
