One whom You inspire to understand the Truth, is easily absorbed into the Naam. ||8||1||23||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

You are True, and all You do is True. If You give me Truth, then I can speak of it.

The one whom You cause to understand Your Truth is absorbed, with effortless ease, into the Name.

Even the praise was supplied by the Praised — and the settling into the Name is effortless when given.
The deeper layer

This one says even the words of praise were a gift from the One.

too sachaa — You are True, and all You do is True. deh ta saach vakhaanee — if You give me Truth, I will speak it. After eight verses of praise, the singer gives the words back. They came from the One in the first place.

Think of a child who draws a birthday card for a parent, using crayons the parent bought. The card is still full of love. But even the crayons were a gift.

The last line uses a favorite word of Guru Amar Das: sehjay. It means with easy calm, without forcing. The one who is shown the Truth settles into the Name. Brahma tried reading. The kings tried being great. But this comes the way a river finally reaches the sea.

A Question to Sit With

What flows easily in your life when you stop forcing it?
