In plain words

The True Guru has dispelled my doubt.

He has settled the Immaculate Name of the Lord in my mind.

Focusing on the Word of the Shabad, I have found lasting peace.

Doubt is not argued out — it is moved out, when the Name moves in.
The deeper layer

The Guru clears away doubt by filling the mind with something better.

The three lines tell one healing in three steps. First, the True Guru took away bharam. Bharam is doubt, a deep misreading of what is real. Next, the Guru settled the niranjan Name in the mind. Niranjan means spotless, untouched by the pull of illusion. Last came sadaa sukh — lasting peace.

The order matters. It is Guru Amar Das's whole way of teaching, in small. Doubt is not argued out. It is moved out, because the Name moves into the place where doubt used to live. Think of a house when a new family moves in. Nobody has to argue with the old tenant. The house simply has a new owner.

And the peace lasts because it rests on who lives inside, not on the weather outside. When the owner changed, the weather of the mind changed too.

A Question to Sit With

What worry would have to move out for peace to move into you — and what might replace it?
