In plain words

How fortunate are those who are joined to the Guru's service.

Night and day they live in devotion; the True Name is planted firm within them.

Through the Name, all their generations are carried across.

The luckiest people are not the richest — they are the ones yoked to service.
The deeper layer

The luckiest people are the ones given a place in the Guru's service.

Say vadbhaagee je gur sayvaa laa-ay — greatly fortunate are those joined to the Guru's service. Notice what counts as good fortune here. It is not money or an easy life. It is being laa-ay, joined and put to work, in service. Even that joining is done for them. Underneath the effort, grace is at work again.

The word drirh-aa-ay is strong too. It means planted firm. The Name is not just spoken over them. It is set deep, like a tent stake hammered into the ground so it holds in any storm.

Then the verse repeats the promise of the verse before it: through the Name, the whole family line crosses over. Some truths Guru Amar Das wants to say more than once.

A Question to Sit With

What are you attached to night and day — and is it planting anything firm in you?
