In plain words

Those who recognize their own self taste the sweet flavor, brothers and sisters.

Drinking in the essence of the One, they are set free — the ones to whom Truth is dear.

Self-knowledge is not bitter medicine — it is the sweetest thing a person can taste.
The deeper layer

This one says that knowing who you really are is the sweetest taste of all.

Guru Amar Das joins two of his deepest teachings in one couplet. aapai aap pachhaani-aa — recognizing your own true self. har ras chaakhi-ai — tasting Har Ras, the sweetness of the One. He says they happen together, and both taste sweet: saad meethaa.

Knowing your true self is not a hard, bitter prize. It feels like coming home hungry and finding dinner on the table.

Freedom follows that taste, the way day follows dawn. But notice who gets it: jinaa saacho bhaa-ee, those who love the Truth. Love, not just curiosity, is the tongue that can taste it.

A Question to Sit With

What flavor does honesty with yourself have for you right now — bitter, or sweet?
