Bewitched by the One, the Soul Is Finally Free

ਸਦਾ ਰਾਵਹਿ ਪਿਰੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਚੀ ਸੇਜ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥

They are fascinated with the Love of their Husband Lord; meeting their Beloved, they obtain peace. ||3||

In plain words

They delight in their Beloved forever — their bed is made beautiful with Truth.

Enchanted by the Beloved's love, meeting the Dearest One, they rest in peace.

Even enchantment has a right use — bewitched by the One, the soul is finally free.
The deeper layer

The happy brides live in the Beloved's company forever, and it brings them peace.

Guru Amar Das is not shy about using marriage as a picture of the soul's closeness to the One. Sachee sayj is the bed made beautiful with Truth. It means the innermost place where the soul meets the One, where nothing false is brought in. Think of the safest, closest place you know, where you never have to pretend.

What the world's loves promise but cannot keep is sadaa, forever. This union keeps that promise, because the One never grows old, wanders off, or dies.

Pir kai paraym mohee-aa — they are enchanted by the Beloved's love. The word mohee-aa means charmed, as if by a spell. It is the same spell that Maya, the pull of the world, casts on everyone. Here it is turned right side up. The soul is finally charmed by the only One whose spell sets you free. Meeting the Dearest One, they find peace.

A Question to Sit With

The world's loves promise forever and cannot keep it — what in your life actually keeps that promise?
